“World Jazz for Haiti” CD launch party

Canadian Red Cross delegate JP Taschereau speaks about his experiences at the CD launch.

Last week, we told you about the “World Jazz for Haiti” CD – an initiative by Canadian jazz artists to raise funds for the Canadian Red Cross Haiti earthquake appeal.

The CD had its official launch party with a capacity crowd at Hugh’s Room in Toronto last night. Almost 75 percent of the artists on the CD were in attendance. Party-goers enjoyed 3 hours of live music with performances by several artists including John McDermott, Tom Reynolds and Holly Cole.

Laila Biali, one of the artists on the CD, has played in many world-class venues such a Carnegie Hall in New York City. She told the crowd she is happy the CD is being released now, instead of immediately following the disaster, in order to continue to raise awareness about the need in Haiti.

Meanwhile, Canadian Red Cross delegate, JP Taschereau, shared his experiences in the field immediately following the earthquake in Haiti. He described hearing gospel music one of the first mornings he was there, adding that music has the ability to heal.

CDs are $25 and are currently available for purchase in-person at the Number 9 Audio Group (222 Gerrard Street East) in Toronto between 9-6 Mon-Fri.
